The federal government on Wednesday raised the price of petrol by Rs 5 per litre.
Meanwhile, the price of diesel was raised by Rs 6.37 whereas light diesel rate was increased by Rs 6.48 per litre.
After the increase, the new price of petrol per litre is Rs 97.83, diesel Rs 112.94, light diesel Rs 82.84 and kerosene oil Rs 86.50 per litre.
The Finance Ministry had given approval for the hike in prices.
Earlier, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) had sent a summary to the Ministry of Petroleum recommending an increase of Rs 9 per litre in petrol prices. According to sources, the body had suggested an increase of Rs13 per litre in diesel prices and Rs 6.47 in kerosene oil.
